BusWay Free & Pro (Single Users)
In addition to the enterprise solutions ("Professional" & "Team"), BusWay is also available as a standalone app for private users, small businesses or for testing purposes.
The Concept:
- No Cloud: All data is stored locally on your smartphone.
- No Ads: The app is ad-free and does not disturb while driving.
- Full Feature Set: You can record, edit, import, and navigate routes.
Operation & Functions
The operation of the Free version corresponds exactly to the Team Edition (with Admin rights). You can find all usage instructions in the Driver App documentation:

The Model: Free vs. Pro Upgrade
BusWay Free is designed so that you can test the app without restrictions and use it for your own purposes. Extended functions for data exchange and managing many lines require an upgrade (In-App Purchase).

Limitations in Detail
1. The "2-Slots" Rule (Loading)
In the free version, you can store an unlimited number of routes. However, only the top 2 routes of your list can be opened ("loaded") for navigation.
- All other routes in the list are grayed out or marked with a lock icon.
- If you want to use a third route, you must delete one of the top ones or perform the upgrade.
2. Export & Sharing
You can export routes as a .busway file to send them to colleagues or for backup.
- Free: The export is technically curtailed. The file contains only the first 2 km or 5 stops (whichever comes first).
- Pro: Exports the complete route without restrictions.
3. Import & External Data
You can import .busway files or GTFS data.
- Free: Imported routes are subject to the same restrictions during playback (navigation) as exports (max. 2 km / 5 stops).
- Pro: Enables navigation on imported routes in full length.
Often, the affordable BusWay Team subscription is cheaper than multiple Pro subscriptions. Use the power of the cloud.
The Pro Upgrade
The upgrade is performed directly in the app via the Google Play Store. You have the choice between a flexible Subscription or a one-time Lifetime Purchase.
The upgrade immediately unlocks:
- Unlimited loading of all saved lines.
- Export in full length.
- Navigation on imported lines (GTFS/.busway) in full length.
Migration to BusWay Professional or BusWay Team
If you later switch to an enterprise solution, your data will not be lost.
- Export your routes in the app.
- Log in to the Professional Edition web cockpit or the Team App as an admin.
- Use the .BUSWAY Import to transfer your locally collected data to the cloud.
